The 40-Degree Nozzle is a wash nozzle. Its wide spray pattern disperses the water pressure over a large area and is recommended for rinsing and moderate washing.
The 40-degree is best for washing down aluminum siding, cleaning windows, washing vehicles, spraying sidewalks, driveways and patios.
I rented one today to do my house's white aluminum siding. It's the first time I've power washed it in the 10 years I've lived here (I spray it down every year, and scrub the porch area siding with a mop). The power washer said 2400 psi in one spot, and 3000 psi in another, so your guess is as good as mine. I started with the 40 degree nozzle, but abandoned it in favor of the 15 deg. nozzle after a couple minutes. It just wasn't touching the dirt, whereas the 40 did just fine. The smaller degree meant I was only cleaning a couple inch wide swath at a time, so I had to do my whole house essentially an inch at a time, but it looks great. Sidewalks, too. 7.5 hours and one exhausted fella later--if it hadn't made me so cranky, I might have actually earned some points with the wife!
